We’ve had a rather thrilling (and deeply cryptic) day here at The Forbidden Corner. Recently, our labyrinth of tunnels, hidden grottos, and secret chambers hosted a full, action-packed day of professional filming.

Naturally, our visitors and followers have been bursting with curiosity, demanding to know what magic was being captured through the camera lens. Well, we would love to tell you, truly, we would! But our lips are completely, utterly, and contractually sealed.

Here is the exhaustive list of everything we are legally allowed to tell you about the shoot:

• Was there a film crew? Yes. A whole crew spent the entire day here last week.
• What is the name of the show? Absolutely classified.
• What channel is it going to be on? Top secret.
• What is the show actually about? Mum’s the word.
• Can we share the reason for filming? Not a peep.

So, why are we telling you this at all if we can’t share any of the juicy details? Because when a mysterious production descends upon the Dales to capture our peculiar corner of the world, we simply can’t resist sharing some of the excitement with you, even if it’s mostly just to tease you! 😋

While we leave you guessing, wondering, and scouring the airwaves for mysterious glimpses of our statues and mazes in the future, we’ll just have to let the imagination run wild. Watch this space (whenever we’re finally allowed to talk about it)!

What happens when you take The Forbidden Corner out of our mysterious labyrinth of tunnels and drop us right into the heart of the Great Yorkshire Show? Absolute magic, mild chaos, and a whole lot of Yorkshire pride!

We packed up our usual dose of wonder and headed down to Harrogate for the 2026 show, and let’s just say it wasn’t your average day out in the Dales. Here is the lowdown on how our grand excursion went down.

The Baby Dragon got to go!

You can take the mythical creatures out of the maze, but you can’t take the mischief out of the creatures. Our little baby dragon Scorch decided that four days of tractors, livestock, and prime Yorkshire produce was the perfect place to stretch his wings and cause a stir. The first year we went, we took Ember, then last year was Cinder, so it was only fair Scorch got to come this year.
True to form, he kept popping up where he definitely wasn’t supposed to be, trying to inspect the prize-winning sheep, attempting to judge the cheese competition, and generally keeping everyone on their toes. Let’s just say security had their hands full trying to keep a scaly toddler from hitching a ride on the back of a pig! (Luckily, the pig wasn’t having any of it)

Meeting the Stump Cross Caverns Mammoth

Every good adventure needs an epic crossover, and we found ours when we bumped into our good friends from Stump Cross Caverns. If you thought navigating our underground chambers was tricky, try running into a prehistoric woolly mammoth in the middle of a showground!

Craig and Sophia were delighted to take him for a walk, and even Scorch was shy around such a large creature. We spent a good portion of the day swapping stories about life beneath the Yorkshire earth, our tunnels versus their 300-million-year-old limestone caves, while bewildered onlookers wondered what kind of alternate timeline they’d accidentally stepped into. It was an iconic meeting of North Yorkshire’s finest curiosities.

Running into someone from our neck of the woods

No trip to the showground would be complete without catching up with some familiar faces from our neck of the woods. We happened to bump into the wonderful folk from Raydale Preserves, who brought along their whole collection of mouthwatering, different-flavoured jams and preserves. Frankly, it was a massive relief that little Scorch wasn’t tagging along for that particular chat; otherwise, every single tasting sample would have vanished in a single, fiery gulp!

From the roar of the main ring to the bewildered faces of folks meeting a rogue baby dragon for the very first time, the Great Yorkshire Show 2026 was one for the history books. A massive thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, braved the crowds, and shared their past memories of the place or discovered it for the first time!

Back to the labyrinth we go, just don’t tell the dragon, they’ve already started planning their next excursion!

We had an absolute blast meeting so many incredible adventurers, from the youngest aspiring spellcasters to those who are simply young at heart. Your energy, fantastic costumes, and magical enthusiasm made the whole event truly legendary.

Magical Mayhem & Dragon Training

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper gathering without a little bit of chaos, and Waggles certainly made sure of that! Let’s just say our favourite troublemaker lived up to his reputation and kept us all on our toes.

Meanwhile, over at the hatchery, Cinder, our resident baby dragon, still hasn’t quite figured out the whole “flying” thing. Despite a lot of wing-flapping and encouragement from the crowd, she remained firmly grounded. But don’t worry, our dedicated dragon trainer hasn’t given up hope and is already planning the next round of aviation lessons!

A Breakthrough in Tea Wizardry

If you happened to spot the Grand Wizard during the festivities, he may have had a mug in hand. In fact, he drank so many cups of tea over the weekend that necessity inspired a stroke of pure genius.

Tired of walking back to the Potting Shed, he has officially resolved to invent a magical kettle. The spell is simple but brilliant: the moment you set the kettle back down on its stand, it will magically refill itself, ensuring a piping-hot brew is always ready. Honestly, we think he should fast-track this into production immediately.

If you didn’t manage to catch our party of adventurers this time around, the magical journey doesn’t have to end! You can always pay a visit to Stoln’s oldest friend, the fabulous Wizard of York.

You can find him spreading joy, mystery, and plenty of laughs over at the Wizard Walk of York. It’s the perfect way to keep the enchantment going.

Grab a late-afternoon treat or a refreshing drink because the Corner Café, the Tower Kiosk, and the Potting Shed Kiosk will all be keeping their shutters up longer to keep you fueled.

• The “Half-Day Play”: Stuck at work until lunchtime? Don’t write off the day! With our last entry at 5:00 PM and gates closing at 7:00 PM, you can finish a half-day at the office and still get a full, action-packed day out with the kids.
• The Golden Hour Explorer: Beat the midday heat, arrive later in the afternoon to see the sun cast long, mysterious shadows through the woods, making our statues and secrets look even more spectacular.

Our “Great Dragon Egg Quest” brought out the bravest explorers and most promising young sorcerers from across the land. If you missed out (or just want to relive the adventure), here’s a recap of the enchantment that unfolded.

The Quest: Unleashing the Magic

The challenge was set, Ember the Dragon had hidden three giant, mystical eggs deep within our folly. These weren’t your average chocolate eggs; each was a huge, vibrant dragon’s egg! Each one also held a vital fragment of an ancient incantation!

Families braved the labyrinth, navigating through the Temple of the Underworld to track them down. Watching everyone piece together the full spell was a highlight for us; there’s nothing quite like the sound of a hundred “words of power” being spoken around the grounds!

Meeting the Masters of Magic

Once the spell was mastered, explorers headed to St Cuthbert’s to meet Rolmi, our Dragon Trainer, for a quick progress check.

Once complete, it was time for the main event: an audience with Stoln Cairngorm, the Grand Wizard.

Stepping into the Wizard’s chamber and seeing his chest filled with hundreds of chocolate eggs was a wonder for any onlooker. Those whose spells were spoken correctly were granted access to the enchanted chest and were able to take a well-earned chocolate treasure!

To top it all off, our resident Knight, Sir Kastor Telford, was on hand to guide everyone safely through the graveyard and back to the froggy fountain, ensuring the adventure ended with big smiles and even bigger stories.

Last week, we were in the attic sorting things out, and we found that some magic had crept into our vintage typewriter, which is heavy, ink-stained, and faintly smells of adventures past.

We decided to bring it down and see what the magic can do.
